Suburban Concert Band and Swing Street Big Band History

The 2024/25 Suburban Concert Band will be entering its 42st season of performing beautiful music.

The Suburban Concert Band is composed of both professional and amateur musicians (ages 17-85+) from West Allis, Wisconsin and the surrounding Greater Milwaukee area. The group was organized by conductor Howard Emerson in 1983. Direction was later handed to Henry Canitz with the goal of bringing quality concert music to the local community. That tradition continues as the Concert Band is now under the direction of Mr. Mark Grauer.

The Swing Street Big Band is a product of the diverse talents of our concert band musicians and some other local talented musicians. The Swing Street Big Band is under the direction of Michael Lueck.

Membership is open to all interested and capable musicians ages 16 and up.

The Suburban Concert Band and the Swing Street Big Band are sponsored by the West Allis Recreation Department. The bands graciously recognizes the staff at Nathan Hale High School for allowing the bands to use its rehearsal space.
